Not the tall, good-looking type.
How's the hatch looking?.
with the abundance of cover I'm hoping for a good hatch somewhere in Kansas. Not going to take your honey hole, just looking for some encouraging news

Still haven't seen any turkey hatches and only one pheasant hatch. No lesser prairie chicken hatches. What I see is cottontails galore. Most ever for my seven decades. Lots and lots of dove at the moment if a cold front doesn't run them off. I am most pleased with the quail. See some hatches and a number of pairs, hopefully doing their thing. Thinking that there may not be much of a pheasant hunt this year at the Ponderosa.
Here is a little quail hatch at the farmstead. Quality not good as it was taken from a moving tractor.

Sounds like lots of pheasants and chicks were seen in the "pockets" during wheat harvest. Of course, these are the same areas that have been rebounding nicely over the past few years. Ample rain, insects and lots of wheat stubble to offer good habitat. I'm optimistic that things will be good in Western Kansas again, barring no disasters.
