Have a place in bekham county that looks to be off to a great start for the 25 hatch. Seeing lots of difrent size broods and big broods. Hoping 2nd half of july and august arent terribly hot / dry. If reasonable I think we cold be looking at a heater
Reminds my of a story of years ago. A kid(young man) I knew got an incubator and was raising 100's of quail to train his bird dogs in an older part of Dodge City. It had a basement with partial dirt floor and a drive out garage. He would hatch the chicks upstairs then move them to the basement. When he was going to train his dogs he would take a dipnet and catch a few. One day a good number of them escaped via the garage door. There was a little neighborhood park near by with some bushes and cover and the quail took up home there, except they would sometimes decide to take to the brick street near by and slow the traffic down. A lady on the street was puzzled with this sizeable covey of quail and called Wildlife and Parks and received the answer that it was a drought year and the quail had come into Dodge in search of water. I knew a Mexican man next door and he called them, "the little chicken" and said they tasted great.Neighbor ladies quail escaped last week. Lots of fun watching and listening to them.
