I would be prepared to see a lot of dead deer during pheasant season. Hopefully your dogs don't get distracted and kids grossed out by half eaten carcasses.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The federal government is on the verge of approving a grain mainly used as livestock feed to make a cleaner version of ethanol, a decision officials say could give farmers a new moneymaking...
I took a drive last night, about a 20 mile trip. I saw probably 200 plus pheasants out getting gravel and in winter wheat fields feeding. It was mostly groups of hens alone and groups of roosters alone. I did see 3 different groups of 1 rooster and 3-8 hens. I think some of these guys are...

My brother, Dad, Nephew and soon to be 92 year old great uncle took a trip out from Minnesota to visit me for a pheasant hunt. It was 53 degrees out here in Winner SD yesterday. The weather was great for my great uncle, but I would have rather had about 5 inches of snow and 15 degrees. The...
It was a cold and windy day chasing roosters today. These are all wild birds. I believe half the fun is trying to place blockers and flankers in the right place this time of year to get the opportunity to harvest some very well educated roosters. The hen/rooster ratio is about 5 to 1 right now.
I have had a pretty good fall so far. I am glad there is still more to come.

I had some visitors from MN for the opening of the West River Deer Season. We did a combo pheasant deer hunt. It was so much fun to host a kid on his first hunt. I got him and his Step-Dad into two different flushes of 30+ birds. I don't think they shot any birds in the big flushes, it was...
The fun is about to begin! Dove seasons opens Sept 1 and there are a lot of them around. Should provide a few fun evenings before the first cold night of the season.
The hens are starting to build nests here in Tripp County, SD. They are nesting everywhere, Alfalfa, Winter Wheat, last years wheat stubble. It is looking like one heck of a hatch.
