I don’t disagree with any of this. I also think I have used bass rods that were to heavy of an action for many years but that’s another topic.
I personally try to limit my shots to 40 yards. Its like traditional bow hunting to me. Can I hit the vitals on a deer at 60 yards with my longbow...
I like to use as few as possible but I’m not a collector in the sense that I don’t buy guns to look at. If I buy one, I intend to shoot it and I like to make memories with my guns. I can pick one up and relive a hunt and think about the shots I took with a particular gun. So if I get a new...
This is why I asked the question to begin with. I agree. I think I typically over choke thinking “I’ll need it for those long shots.” And then I never take any of those “long” shots. The only time I’ve ever felt under choked was last season when I took a 20 ga to SD. I was using F over M...
I also think I was trying to hard to sight down the barrel like a Turkey gun. I need to mount the gun like I would if I was shooting birds and pattern it like that. That may help with the up and down but the left and right was severe enough I think there may be other issues. I only say that...
When I bought the Franchi I shot, it did not have its front bead. I don’t look at them either but like to have a small one on there for some reason. My Legacy and my Browning both have a fiber optic bead that I can’t stand. I’m going to have a different bead put on both. I used to think I’d...
I think I mentioned above we fired it off a rest and got the same results as freehand. I did fail to mention that we did some single shots and some doubles to make sure it wasn’t a one off deal. All results the same.
I do agree that some of those things have to be considered but I think...
LOP is good for each gun. I kind of did what you mentioned. I shot the 16 ga until I had shot it all I was going to for data. Then the 20 the same way. then the 28. My intent now is to make changes to the 16 and see if I can get it to shoot for me. If not, I’ll have to figure out what is...
Well, I went out and patterned some guns today. Not going to post photos yet or talk numbers just overall results because I have to make some adjustments to even be useful. All patterns were shot at 40 yards. Freehand and with a rest to see if there was a difference. There wasn’t enough to...
Picked up one of these today.

I’ve never used one before but it gave me some interesting results. According to this tool, by Marlin Model 90 16 ga has F over IM chokes. My IM Trulock in my 20 ga is really a...
I feel that way about my son. I’m not as altruistic with my usual hunting crew. If the birds are flying and I’m out with the usual hunting crew, I want them to be successful but I’m not happy if I don’t get a few. I don’t have to get the most and I really don’t need to get more than one or two.
Bought one for $850 last year. I believe its the venture model. I thought it was a citori when I saw it on the shelf. Nice 12 ga. he had a 20 and sold it just a day or two before I was there.
A choke won’t change the 60/40 patterning. However, you can change shims in the stock to help lower point of impact to get the 60 a little lower and function more like a 50/50.
