    New Mexico

Lohman used to make them. They are hard to find now. I used them very effectively last week on Gambels here in NM. They can really help you out. Broken coveys will answer a call call ten mins after being dispersed. lots of birds around this year. Hunt the heavier cover for Gambels. Check the...

    Steel Shot

    # 3 Kent or Fiocchi works very well on pheasants! You wont be disappointed. They clip along at 1400 fps which is really nice. (1- 1/8 oz) At the end of the day I prefer higher FPS vs heavier slower loads. I've considered making it my everyday pheasant load...

    Water intro specifics?

    One thing you learned

I have learned again and again that the quiet folks get more that their fair share of the action.... no door slamming, no yelling "hen" unless necessary, no whistles, no dog scolding (easy to say, hard to do)….. If you want to shoot less, hunt next to the noisy guy in the group....

What's the skinny on the quail population now that the storm and brutal cold have passed through? Anything survive the brutal temps? My pointing lab has been asking....she dearly loves to point the little bombers...

    New Mexico Gambels

Was a hit or miss year for my pointing lab and I...top day was 12.. low end was 2...birds tended to be around the very thickest, thorniest cover....imagine that. encouraging part in the lower middle Rio Grande valley was a harvest rate of about 75% juvenile birds all Gambles. a quail call is...

    Thanksgiving weekend

Hunted SW Kansas starting Thanksgiving eve and then for the next 5 days...tough sledding to say the least. Second year in a row of killing more quail than roosters. Lowest per person per day average in 15 years. Hunted a mix of Private (80%) and WIHA (20%). Cover is just fair this year. 75%...

Anyone besides my Brother, Son, Daughter and I hunting over them?? Three yellows and a chocolate all less than 3.5 years old locking up on Quail and Phez. If you love upland and waterfowling it is a cool way to go. Been hunting SW Kansas for 30 years....wish I would have found pointing labs...
