Anyone going out for the opener?

Sounds bad. I live ten minutes from China Island and it is convenient to go there but there is no point. I am going to head over to Los Banos/Salt Slough area next week

Anyone going out for the opener?

Went to China Island. Getting worse every year. After the refuge last flooded three years ago during winter pheasant numbers have gone down. When I returned to the check station around noon, only one pheasant was taken.

    China Island refuge flooded out

Will not being going to usual refuge this year. the San Joaquin River borders the state refuge. The River has flooded out much of the refuge which is underwater. Not much room for habitat this year. Going to LB for the opener this coming season.

    California's No. 1 Wild Pheasant Refuge/Wildlife Area

I know Yolo is good. I wonder what the average per hunter taken was last year? I think Yolo gets alot of people during the opener.

    Worst Opener Ever

Sometimes it is hit and miss for one person but I asked everyone I came across and everyone I talked to didn't get anything. Even last year which wasn't a good year, some people got birds last year. When I dropped off my permit at the check station after 12:00PM, there was only one bird taken up...

    Pheasant opener

I am thinking of this Saturday. I think late in the season will be better with the water especially if we can get some meaningful preci[itation and if a lot of hunters give up and the birds have a chance to settle

    Pheasant opener

I live five minutes away from China Island and not much of a drive to Los Banos. It is easy to go and it gives both me and my dog good exercise. If I had to drive over an hour to get there I wouldn't go.

    Pheasant opener

I don't know how many go pheasant hunting specifically. All I know is that hunting has declined in California generally as California has become more of an urban culture and there are less places to go on private property. I think more people go Duck and Dove hunting than pheasant especially now...

    Pheasant opener

Wild birds. Pheasants used to be everywhere in agricultural areas in the 70s and 80s. There was a rapid decline in the wild population in the 1990s. Almost nonexistent now even in areas that had the best numbers.

    Pheasant opener

True story back in the early 80s when there was alot of birds everywhere. We used to hunt an this family's asparagus fields. They had maybe 100 acres total. Their fields were dirty inside and the pheasants loved it. We did well there. We probably got 30 roosters that year all season. We happen...
