    Pen-Reared Pseudo Roosters

    Unfortunately, pen-raised birds are all we have here in NJ. Very few make it through the season, thanks to hunting pressure on WMA's and an abundance of coyotes. On a positive note, they taste just fine.

    Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. I do have one of Fergus' books stashed away in my "library", but my long-time favorite writer is the late Havilah Babcock. His stories of quail hunting in the deep south in the first half of the past century are timeless. Wish I could have been there.

    Single shot guns?

    Dad bought me my first shotgun, an Ithaca Super single in .410, when I was 10 in 1967. It became Dad's favorite for rabbit hunting, and I was "stuck" with his Rem 11-48 12 ga. It packed a wallop on both ends!
