NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

Brown Dog- I figured the GPS coordinates you gave on your honey hole was the reason you deleted. Wasn't me in the Dodge House. Sounds like a guy I might know though. Was he tall and slender, not short and fat like me?

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

Brown Dog- Saw your post, then it vanished. Yes, anywhere I travel out here has great crops. Lots of good looking dryland corn and milo. Still not seeing the pheasants at the Ponderosa. Calling it "Quail & Tail" out here. Decent quail numbers and unbelievable cottontail numbers.

Cooking Own Meals at the Motel

I seldom travelled to pheasant hunt, since I usually hunt at home. I have friends that always have a great field lunch. They travel with grill and the goods. Back in the day when we hosted our annual dove opener, the ladies put on quite a spread. We celebrated some birthdays with my wife's...

    Chicks

Still haven't seen any turkey hatches and only one pheasant hatch. No lesser prairie chicken hatches. What I see is cottontails galore. Most ever for my seven decades. Lots and lots of dove at the moment if a cold front doesn't run them off. I am most pleased with the quail. See some hatches and...

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

Good deal, maybe some fill in Cedar Bluff? I hope. Pretty skies, but my phone doesn't do it justice to the full, bright double rainbows.

Summer reports. How are things bird wise looking.

Reminds my of a story of years ago. A kid(young man) I knew got an incubator and was raising 100's of quail to train his bird dogs in an older part of Dodge City. It had a basement with partial dirt floor and a drive out garage. He would hatch the chicks upstairs then move them to the basement...

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

Was woke up at 4AM with a blowing rain. It dumped 1.15" really quick and may not be over. This one might have hurt the young chicks and some nests. Anxious to see what it looks like when it dries out. YTD 17.55", just above my 17.50" average at the Ponderosa.

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

July 8th, 0.20" shower with nickel to golf ball size hail here at the Ponderosa. Didn't last long and not much wind, so I think most critters would have not been hurt. Finally saw a pheasant hatch and one hen on a nest, a couple quail hatches and several quail pairs. No turkey hatches or lesser...

    How fast conditions change.

My father always said, "Knee high by the 4th of July". Here in SW Kansas these days much of the corn has tassels by the 4th of July. The crops here in my part of the world look really good.
