    How young’s too young?

That is a good question for that trainer as to why they wait. When most pointing dog trainers want to do the gun, collar, and some obedience. My last two have started that process at 4 months it takes about a month. Then let the dog hunt wild birds for a year before the breaking process...

    How young’s too young?

I have always heard the retriever guys say not to hunt them till at least a year. I think that is because labs have a good chance developing joint problems. Most pointing breeds don’t have that problem. As long as you limit a young dogs time running don’t over do it when they are young...

    New Skin Sensitive Skin

It works well I always pack the cut with antibiotic cream and shave the area around the wound Cream keeps hair out of wound. Then rinse well and do spot welds don’t try to glue the whole thing shut all at once. A buddies dog cut its front leg about 4 inches long and in a C shape. We...

    New Skin Sensitive Skin

The 3m vetbond is a medical grade superglue. My vet said that the ingredients in new skin can be toxic to dogs. The 3m is pricey but worth every penny. I have used it on several dogs and myself. It has zero stinging. Wear gloves while gluing anything that stuff will glue you to the...

    TSS #9 shot….

I reload most of my ammo. And at the price of reloading components for 28 ga 3/4 oz you are not saving but a few pennies per round over buying loaded upland tss from apex. And that is not counting the time it takes to reload.

    Reloading for Pheasant help

The weight of a load or oz’s is a measurement of the amount of shot of any size. There is ~222 of #6 pellets in a 1oz load of lead and ~346 of #7.5 pellets of lead in a 1oz load Both are 1 oz 7.5’s are smaller there for there is more per oz.

    Shot size per ounce

MEC doesn’t measure by weight it measures by volume. You will need a steel shot specific charge bar for the weight of shot your load calls for. With a volume measured bar MEC uses a specific shot size to bore the hole in the bar. Smaller shot will be over weight and larger shot will be...

    Reloading for Pheasant help

hodgdon has tons or 7/8 and 1 oz loads on their website. I personally mainly shoot 1 oz 20 gauge loads but do have a few 1-1/4 3 inchers in my pocket for late season pheasants. The 3 inchers of 6’s are tight patterning hammers.

    Best day ever!

On the rattlesnakes. Do they need multiple warm days in a row to emerge? Or is there a certain degrees they emerge?

How should I have handled this

If there was no vet available. On the tailgate I would fill with neosporen (keeps the hair out of wound) ,shave the surrounding area, totally clean with lots of pressurized saline. Then spot weld it with 3m vetbond (I am not confident with a stapler). And be at the vet when they open.

    Steady to flush and shot?

A positive to steady to flush in a pointing breed is stop to flush. This allows you to catch up and handle the dog for any stragglers. Especially handy on prairie birds
