Yet another rooster slaughter in SW KS

Hey Grouch - was that picture taken behind the Flamingo in Hugoton? Nice pictures of the young guns. Brings back memories of previous years with mine who is now 21. How did that happen so fast?

    Motel Recommendation in Hugoton, KS

Instead of giving Walmart your business you might try Alco. I have found they stock high brass load. You can get your license there also. You can find Alco stores in most smaller towns. Hugoton has one on the southwest side just past the High School.

    Motel Recommendation in Hugoton, KS

There are basically three motels in Hugoton. The only one I would stay at is the Flamingo. Ask for Benny and tell him a tall guy from Texas pointed to him. He is the new owner and is making an effort to freshen things up. He really likes to have hunters and the place is dog friendly. The...

    having a hard time!

I do not expend time or energy trying to hunt wheat stubble unless it is weedy. When looking for good WIHA to walk it must have good cover and be next to a corn, milo, sorghum field. Hunt the grass in the morning and late afternoon. I have hunted grass at all times of the day and it has...

    Distrubing Trend

I guess I would be one of those people walking by your trailer but I would do so even it was free. Although I am making an assumption here from the information provided, I do not grasp how a trailer display of deer heads with racks that your average hunter will never see outside of pen raised...

    Dog catches hen. Now what?

It goes against the dog's bag limit. He caught it he cleans it. The chances of being near my house in Houston when this might happen are somewhat remote so the bird will be left in the field for something else to enjoy. The possible penalty is not worth the risk. I am sure the warden will...

    Distrubing Trend

There will always be hunters and then everyone else. Trying to convert the others to hunters is not something I can or want to do. Either they have the desire, equipment, time, and money it takes or they don't. Sometimes they have higher priorities for those resources. We do not have a...

    xmas jetmore hunt

Hodgeman county I believe is were Jetmore is located. That county has probably the most WIHA of any Kansas county. We have hunted it in years past and there was always good WIHA cover with grain fields next door. I would recommend the western part of the county as the northern area never...

    Dog Friendly Hotel recommendations

Liberal - Ranch Motel. Tell them a tall guy from Texas pointed you to them. I have been staying there for over 12 years. There is a park next to it for walking the dog.

    Roosters Missing Tail Feathers

That was one of the new hybrid roosters I have heard about. They have evolved through a survival instinct to not have any tail feathers.

    Disappointed in Kansas

If you did not like the North central area you would not like the SW part of the country either.;) If this was your first trip to Kansas then you learned some valuable lessons. The primary one would be to not believe the forecast. I have hunted the Larned/Garfield area for many years and have...

    Fair Warning

You did not finish that sentence so I will assist. you just can't tell them much.. they do not already know. :D

    Fair Warning

Just wanted to give any Kansas hunters fair warning that after Thanksgiving there will not be any roosters left in Stevens or Seward county. Reason being is my GSP and I will be passing through and after we take our limit the rest of the Roosters will get wind of us and hightail it to safer...

    SW Kansas - 11/22 onward

It appears like I will be hitting the fields solo next week as my usual compardres got hit by Obamanomics and have to take passes for this year. While being a single is not that distressing I would welcome an experienced upland hunter(s) to join me for some passes. Not really interested in new...
