    Help with Dilemma?

Excellent advice NDPheasant. That would take some poor judgement by anyone who gets married during pheasant season. Also for those youngster starting families, it takes nine months to bake. Good idea to make sure one is shooting blanks the few months of the year.

    Emergency Haying 2022

The map previously suggested by Woollybob and the following report. https://www.fsa.usda.gov/Assets/USDA-FSA-Public/usdafiles/Conservation/Haying-and-Grazing/Counties_Approved_Emergency_Haying_Grazing.xlsx.

    Emergency Haying 2022

It appears emergency haying is in effect this year again, if I understand the USDA report correctly. Curious to hear if others are seeing more, less, or similar haying to 2021 on WIA and CREP.

    Porkys

West River we ran into 6 porkys in 3 years. My brother’s Dog was hit once. Not fun. Haven’t seen any East River in 16 years of hunting. If you think about hunting West river, I would suggest keeping some tools on you to pull out quills.

    2021 Outlook

I should also add that one of the farmers mentioned that a fair amount of haying has taken place.

    2021 Outlook

Communication we have had with a couple farmers in two separate parts of the state are that they are seeing a lot of pheasants. One said that it is the most birds he has ever seen on his property. Last year was epic and was the most birds we have seen hunting public ground in 11 years.

    possession thread made me paranoid

Good idea to have two vests if planning to hunt anything that requires steel. I have two vests that I keep with me. One has lead and the other steel shot.

    Versatile Game Vest

In the market for a new game vest. Looking for something that can be worn in warm weather and that can be put over a jacket In Cold weather. I’m willing to spend money for a quality vest. Is there a vest out there that is a “must have”? Are there vests to stay away from?

    2021 RINGNECK OUTLOOK

How often has an increase in a license fee or any tax produced positive results down stream and a long term benefit? Raising taxes rarely generates more money long term and even short term for that matter if you lose a percentage of your base. You may have a short term gain on license fees as...

    Wish I knew it then

One more suggestion ... I picked up the Garmin Pro 550 plus last year and I wish I would have bought it sooner. Whether I’m hunting in thick cattails, high Crp, or next to corn, I always know where my dog is and it has allowed me to hunt much quieter. No longer losing my dog when he goes on...

    Wish I knew it then

2 recommendations 1. Use high quality ammunition, it is typically only a few bucks more per box but can make a big difference. When considering the total cost of the hunting trip it is one of the least expensive items. If you can, I would suggest testing different brands and shots with your...

    warm weather!!

Hunted Friday and Saturday, had to manage the dogs, fortunately we didn’t have to stay in the field too long as there are birds everywhere and we limited out with just a few hours hunting each day. Hunted only public land. The hatch this year must have been one of the best in many years...

    ... how 'bout here?

I think the issue here is posting a screenshot of a specific area on a public forum. There are birds in nearly every part of the state, yes there are higher density areas of both birds and hunters and this information can be found in some of the reports on the SDGFP website. Part of the fun...

    crop reports 2020

Thanks for including the link Goldenboy (y)... I mentioned to my wife that I get excited for the update each Monday... she told me that I am crazy. I replied “thank you!” Last year we were out in December and there was some major snow drifting. Many fields were not harvested due to the water...
