    28ga

My intern at work shoots a 28 gauge SxS. (I taught him well.). He buys Golden Pheasants by the case, and I’ve seen him kill a pile of roosters stone dead with it. My brother in law was commenting last week about some of the shots he watched him successfully make with the pea shooter. Yesterday...

    2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

Speaking from a lifetime of heel issues—- Duct tape on the heels, works as a prevention if you’re prone to blisters, but works better than a bandaid if you’re already blistered. Just rip off a 4”??? chunk of it. Center it on heel where blister is/will be, then put on your sock. Now the tape rubs...

    2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

I also like the Scheels Endeavor pants, but their size offerings/availability have been limited for 2 years, slow boat from China must need replinished or something. https://www.scheels.com/p/47500002718?queryID=11c3f0e3feb4d4f50f7f9a15c838a092

    2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

In reference to the 550+, I'm assuming you're talking about linking it to the Explore app or on your computer after the fact? I quit using mine through my phone because the tracks of two dogs just got too cluttered up, running them at home daily just led to a globbed up mess and not easy to...

    Pheasant Industry in SD

11/7 for me. I only hunted Kansas at the time. That year it was the first a Saturday of November, so the season didn’t open until the following weekend. No big deal, we hunted second weekend, populations were high, limits on public ground. Well, populations in the tank now, we hunted second...

    talk me into a gun

I bought a used Rizzini Aurum Light for well under your budget. At 5.5 lbs it’s a joy to carry chasing roosters. Maybe too light.

    Pheasant Industry in SD

All I know is when they say “I don’t F’n care where you go on our anniversary this year” that she doesn’t really mean that. But man, we killed a lot of birds 4 years in a row that weekend.

    Dogtra compass

My buddy calls us hunting with GPS - livescopers. As in “I’ll never hunt my dogs with live scope”. Makes for some interesting dinner conversations. Myself, I doubt I ever hunt without live scope again since buying it.

    20 guage auto?

I’m not sure if it’s illegal, or just a strong recommendation, but an upland gun is supposed to be stocked in walnut. The getting beat up are just stories to tell when you can’t take it out any longer. That said, I have a synthetic A300 and bought my boy a synthetic Franchi Affinity 3 (used)...

" Im to old, my bird hunting and bird dog owning days are over "

Somewhere on here was a post about a guys 90 something year old neighbor that had his bird dog recently die. When asked if he was getting another one “nah, it just hurts too much when they pass and I don’t think I could handle losing another one”.

Do you take a poke at the long range birds ?

I TRY to only shoot somewhat close range birds. If one has some shot in it, by myself, or my party, I’ll shoot at longer ranges than I like to try and finish it. Drives me nuts when some in our party start shooting at those super long ranges birds. They rarely drop one, and then it’s usually got...

    Garmin Alpha 100 VS 200/300

The 550+ is the one if you’re more interested in training, yet still has a functional gps to give distance and direction. I can toggle between dogs, give correction, or just a tone to any of 3 dogs without looking at the handheld. Why does it seem that Garmins user interface on everything they...

Dog vest for retriever around 65lbs.

I’ve got both colors of the Scheels vest for my 65 lb shorthairs. The added visibility it gives them is great.

Are you better at sporting clays or wild birds?

I’ve shot at courses that our backyard thrower throwing straightaways was about equal in difficulty. I shot at a course a few weeks ago that I felt stupid when I was done. In fairness, I had never been there and had a fixed choke gun with way to open of chokes for it. Should have shot skeet...
