Never been able to shoot the model 12 well.

Your post about High Plains gunstocks is going to cost me a lot of money I think. Just bought a 16 gauge from 1923 last week. Going to send to Mike Orlen for tubes. Gotta get the chamber/ejection port lengthened, then I’m going to try my hand at rust bluing. If it turns out decent, going to...

I find it funny. But not enough to get worried about in any way.

The most Beautiful Bird Hunting Boot ever

I’m on 4 seasons of a custom to foot made South 40 Birdshooter. I like them just fine, they’re very comfortable. . $500 at the time (wife bought for me). They tout them as being waterproof without fancy liners. They’re not. They’ll leak like a sieve in ankle deep water, not standing in it...

    O/U with a Student Budget

2 things stand out to me here. 1. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. 2. Kids guns don’t count against the quota system. My kids have a ton of guns….heck, my 10 year old daughter even got a nice shorthair for her 4th birthday. “Surprise!” Joking. Kinda….

    Boss shotgun ammunition

Slippery slopes indeed. When 2 wolves and a sheep are voting on what is for supper, guess what is going to hit the grill. Is BOSS partnering with this non tox organization purely from the duty they feel to keep our game meat and duck ponds safe, or because they see $$$ to be made. A total...

Not sure I want to support a company supporting a total ban on lead. It’s just the first step.

    Crispi boots fail

I love my Crispi Guides that I bought for cheap as a 1 time worn used boot that didn’t fit the guy. I mostly only wear them when elk or muley hunting though. Have put a lot of miles on them. Russell touts their all leather triple vamped blah blah blah waterproof without a lining. I’ve got...

    Unexpected bonus bird

Opening weekend we were walking an uncut sunflower field. Had a chicken playing leap frog in front of me but couldn’t get a shot. Almost across the field dad hollers at me, look north and a flock is flying right at us from a grass patch. Dad knocked down one and my buddy hit another. Get to end...

    Ammo prices

I bought several flats of AA’s in 2005 for $5.50. I noticed they had jumped to $7.50 at Academy then and bought several more at Walmart before they raised their price , and they did. $5.50 in an inflation calculator is $8.65 $7.50 in an inflation calculator is $11.79 I noticed the other day...

Simson SxS 16 gauge, 2 3/4 inch chambers

Is that 450 in the last picture the date, signifying April of 1950? Engraving looks close to a 12 guage I have from 1965. Mine has extractors, not ejectors. My 12 on top (with another unmarked German 16 from 1919 below it)

    Picture post

I have a lifetime license, dad is in SEK, bro in law is south of Wichita, and it was worth the 10-12 hour drive. I'll admit it was all on private ground. The birds were definitely spooky, even on private. One kid in our group took a 60 yard shot as we were getting out of the truck to hunt an...

In short, I like them. I had never used a vest before, my old dog has a fatty tumor on the point of his chest that I was trying to protect so I bought the first one on the way to SD in October. It amazed me how much more it made them stand out as far as visibility, the rest of our group...

    Getting Good Rain

The principles of a very basic economics class apply here. There’s a supply curve and a demand curve. Where they cross sets a price. Our problem is we have a limited supply of: 1. game animals 2. Public accessibility And all that is with a high demand. Something has to give. More and more...

    The harvest is on!

Hunted around Pierre opening weekend. Beans mostly combined, more corn, sunflowers, and milo still in the field than in the bin. Still had a good time though.

    Early season thoughts

The last hour and half Sunday was about as good as I’ve ever seen as far as numbers of birds in front of my dog for him to work. The resting the day Sunday was slow. When crops are out it looks promising to me, as a fairly rookie SD hunter.

    2023 Trip Planning Help

We got pheasants, a sharpie, and a chicken out of the same field Saturday. The bonus birds were just flying in over us. Chicken was flying with the flock of sharpies, but there was already at least one chicken in the field because it kept playing leap frog with me the whole field. Just couldn’t...
