Trulok choke tubes

Hey all new member here.

I have a browning sweet 16 and I am looking for trulok choke tubes.

I shoot skeet and pheasants with this gun.

What tubes would you recommend size wise?

What tubes did it come with? Do those not pattern well with your current shells? Shoot at paper at the approx. distance you have been shooting birds at (with the same shells you hunt with) and see if you need a different tube, you might be golden already. Seems like a frickin waste of money to just start buying tubes without knowing how it currently shoots. No one here can tell you what you need with what you gave. Shoot paper 3 or 4 times (separate paper) and then if you aren't happy, post your load or shells, distance, current choke and then you will get a list of every choke made from here.

It came with invector ds. Although I’ve heard that they are constricted less than what is stated.

I have the same gun. If you can, pattern the chokes that came with it first. That being said, many people have said the Inv. DS chokes in the sweet 16 are not very good. I didn’t like mine so I went with Briley solely for the color bands on them to make them easier to tell from all my Trulock 20 ga chokes. Trulock makes some great chokes. No problems with them whatsoever. For Skeet, I like a Skeet or IC choke. For pheasant, it will depend on the distance. IC, LM, M, or IM will all work at the right distance.

I can't speak for 16 ga DS chokes, but the 12 ga tubes are junk. I have a 725, and after checking patterns with the flush DS tubes (all bad), I ordered a few Trulock tubes, which are as good or better than any aftermarket chokes available. If you can afford two, get a skeet 1 and I/C for sporting clays/hunting. If you can afford three, add a LM. Get the Xtend models, easy to read and/or change.

I can fortunately afford 3.

Skeet is one of them I need.

I need another one for mid range pheasant.

I hunt over pointing dogs and most shots are close.

There are occasionally “wild” flushes (I’m from pa) where I need further shots say out to 40 yards.

I use a Trulock light-mod about 90% of the time in my new-style Sweet 16. I use Trulocks in a bunch of my other guns too, very happy with them.

The factory DS chokes do indeed throw a much more open pattern than how they're marked.

We will have a lot of help here, pretty hard to know what you need without knowing much of anything....what size shot, amount or even what kind of shot you might be shooting. The OP says he hunts over pointers, so don't you think he should try shooting the gun first with the chokes and see how it patterns at maybe 25 yards??? Are you doing him a favor having him buy aftermarket tubes, when he likely has what he needs?? I think I have purchased exactly 1 aftermarket choke, trying to push tight pattern out further that the standard full choke for turkeys. If these chokes traditionally throw a bigger pattern, that is a bit of good information for the OP. If he isn't the best shot, the more open chokes might help him. I have shot a few birds over the last few decades and I leave the factory IC choke in all season, hunting over a pointer....a flusher and I would try the modified. I am new at this and don't know crap. Good luck with things.

Here is a video of a guy testing factory and aftermarket chokes, try this with your hunting ammo and your factory tubes, before buying more choke tubes is my advice. Marketing can suck a lot of dollars from your pocket if you are gullible. Maybe your chokes will throw a terrible pattern, then spend some of the money you have and try some after market ones and hope they do better.

I’m shooting Kent shells 5 shot.

It patterned terribly with boss, federal premium flight stoppers. All 5 shot.

Due to not being able to find the Kent’s currently I’ll probably go to Remington xlr 5 shot.

I also have a beretta 686 that I shoot extremely well (better than this gun) but I’ve been using this one to force myself to shoot better with it. It’s coming along.

I’ve been pheasant hunting for years. However when I look at trulok they have so many options it’s not your typical cylinder, ic, mod, imp mod, and full

Key quote at the end of the video. Depending on your factory choke…..

The inv DS chokes have not had any good press. Lots of info out there on poor patterns. However, like you, I think its a good idea t check the stock chokes first. But I also have no issue with aftermarket chokes. I know my FAIR Iside 16 ga patterned terribly with the factory chokes. Trulock chokes made a big difference. Same for my Franchi 48 ALs. Also many of the factory chokes sets do not have skeet, LM, IM, etc. in the set or even available. So if you want those chokes, you may be required to go aftermarket.

There is a VAST difference hunting over a pointer on private land that doesnt get hunted much and going after birds that may have been hunted an hour prior and 50 times in the season. Night and day. I switch back and forth between NW IA private stuff loaded with fairly inexperienced birds and SD beat to death public. All with a shorthair. The shots are nearly always longer on public.

So there is yet another variable to consider. Maybe if I had watched our SD boys' videos, I would have noticed that.

I have a several Turlock's. No complaints. If you got the bead. Start at CYL. and go to xtra full. You'll find something in there you like. Get the extended ones. If not and not worried about your skeet scores, keep in simple and get imp. cyl. mod and full. I've shot a lot of skeet with mod and full. You'll be a better shot and get some impressive breaks!
