Beretta Silver Pigeon

I know where I can get a Beretta Silver Pigeon for what seems like a pretty good deal used. They are asking $1300 for it. My only hold up is it has 26” barrels. I usually don’t shoot short guns well but I like the weight for an all day pheasant hunt. Help me decide, do I pass on the deal or learn to shoot a short gun better? It would be for pheasants and very casual clays around the farm.

Edit to add: it is in 20 gauge

Is it the real old onyx with fixed chokes? If it is a newer one with choke tubes that is a hell of a deal. I prefer a 28 inch barrel on a o/u.

It is a new one with chokes. I called the gentleman and spoke with him. He bought it for grouse and then lost his dog the same year then lost his love of hunting. It’s had 12 shells through it.

They are great guns, just caution on the finish. The Beretta finish is not that great. If it gets wet, it turns a funky white color. It needs a few coats of finish added to it. You could do a good wipe down with mineral spirits then rub a few coats of Tru Oil and finish it accordingly.

I have a 12 gauge 30” model so I am very familiar with them. I just needed convinced that this deal should out weigh my aversion to shorter barrels.

I did just buy it and picked it up in person. The deal got a little sweeter when I got there. Everything from factory came with it. It has a Sureshot adjustable butt plate with a kickeez pad installed. Since he is no longer hunting he threw in almost a full case of Prairie Storm also. I was going to try to talk him down on price but figured it was well worth his asking price.

Get it before it gets away. you'll shoot it fine after some practice. If not you won't loose any money on it, probably make some. P.S. I've never regreted buying any Beretta I've ever owned.
