Well I had a pretty good opening day. I was done by 9:30..the only down side was after I shot my limit I did not know what to do for the rest of the day. Went back to the hotel, sat in the hot tub for a bit. Watched some TV cleaned the gun, looked at my watch and it was only noon..... Hope tomorrow goes the same way 😀

Are you willing to give any hints to about where you were at? I was way up by Peetz this morning and didn't run into much and the birds were jumping way out. Maybe you could PM me? It's just me and my dog, so not going to be going with a big group.

I hate laying around around like that. That is why i intentionally miss so much. I missed a limit of pheasant and quail today. Saves on cleaning time too.

Lol, the planets must be in alignment or something for me, definitely not how things usually go

Lol. Great job! A couple of my more memorable bird hunting days were that way. Hardest part is staying out of the bar :)

I was done in 45 minutes. Public field was loaded with birds. Echo is 10.5 months old and needs experience. To that point, we helped other people hunt in and around Yuma. We hunted mostly private after the first public field. Ironically, we did not put up that many birds after the morning craziness. We had 15 great dogs and the birds were not there. It was so hot, dry and dusty. I hunted NE on Friday. We found both pheasant and quail. Not in the kind of quantity that I expected. That said, my girl found 5 hens and 2 roosters. Got one, missed one. Great dog work.

Good luck.

Man I wish I could've found the fields that you guys were at. We put up 3 hens all day and after about 8:30, not a thing. We started south of Stratton and worked north towards Yuma. Any advice on where to look next weekend? Ended up taking a buddy out for his first time hunting. It was a little disappointing.

I don't know why the first field (public) was so amazing? There were literally 150+ birds in the field. We hunted a lot of prime private afterwards, and did not see that many birds. We were running a lot of great dogs and just did not put up many birds. I have been told by multiple landowners that they're seeing a ton of birds. I hope we get some cold, wet weather soon. Perhaps we will see more birds at that time.

Sure was windy today, still managed to limit out by 1 pm. I did not see a ton of birds but the ones I did see where in range. One of the better opening weekends. Nothing like hunting in a t shirt. Temp hit 72

our usual WIA produced about a dozen birds with my group getting a couple. It was a bit of a let down as I was expecting more then later that morning after talking to a farmer in the area we found out why it might have been down in that area, they had golf ball size hail Labor day weekend. We ended up finding birds in every field we hit and let several of them live with poor shooting but this was my pups first hunt, heck it was her first everything since she is only 13 weeks old but she walked with me the entire day. I was very impressed with her.

You took a 13 week old dog hunting on opening day? Seriously? IMO that's way too young to be taking a dog out on a live, wild bird hunt. Good luck.

I wouldn't a told that...

Had to miss this weekend for work, but got out Monday and saw buckets of birds with my 4-yo French Brittany. Only saw 2 other hunters, so that probably helped. Should have limited out by 10am easy but my gun is a conservationist and I got my limit by noon after my dog put up 9 roosters in gun range. Probably put 16 up in total, with 4 of those flushing with a group of 7 hens. Had to really pace ourselves and take some cool-down breaks because of the heat. Looking forward to the cooler weather on Saturday.

Heading to Holyoke tomorrow to hunt for 3 days. Hopefully this storm brings some snow Thursday night. We hunted last weekend and saw lots of birds and lots of deer. Hoping to call some coyotes also.

Opening day our group of 15 shot 33 Pheasant all on public ground. The quail were very good.

Where you going to stay?

I took a co-worker out yesterday and man was it warm! Still saw a lot of birds and finished with 5 for the day.

How did you end up? Quite the 1-3 inch storm!!LOL! A few roads I was reluctant to even try as the drifts were too big to navigate. Found a few first thing in some good shelter belts. Still not many birds. Going to move farther South on the next adventure.
