Back from South Dakota

Pointing lab

I just returned from a week in South Dakota.

Overall, a lot of crops were still in around the area I hunt. The birds were in the crops and very wild. The first couple days were warm and it was difficult to get close to them. Then it got windy, rainy, and colder and we were able to get closer.

I think the birds are up over last year when we hunted in that area but I do not think they are up as much as the forecasts would lead you to believe.

Either way, it was a good trip. I did have a run in with a skunk that my friends dog pointed. The action cam caught what transpired. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30Pku6ZccKQ

What it did not catch was me getting run out of a grocery store trying to get stuff to get rid of the smell:)

If I had it to do over, I think I would have gone out in a couple weeks to give the crops more time to get out.

Happy hunting

My dad has 2 dogs that seem to have as much of an interest in the fur as the feather. They have had multiple encounters with coons and skunks while pheasant hunting. It's a little ridiculous. I've tried to get him to put in a "rule" that if nothing flushes quick, get the dogs out of there because they are probably chasing a fury critter.
