Panther in Greensburg

I saw a panther last week while I was hunting.

Okay it may have been a dog, but from a distance it looked like a cat.

Hunting was hard. We hunted quail. Did well most days, but walked a lot of miles. Didn't see piles of pheasants. Other hunters said things were slow also.

Greensburg is still rebuilding. Better than last year. A couple of places in town to eat.

The South Georgia pointers got cold last week. Saw some snow, but it didn't stick. Had a good time. Can't wait til next year.

Welcome and Good Luck

My buddy and I are gearing up for our own 20hr drive from Virginia after the 1st of the year, weather permitting.

Thanks for choosing the great and hospitable state of Kansas for your upland hunt. Have a great hunt and a great hunting season.

Panthers have been confirmed here so you probably saw what you believe you saw. Thanks for the report. Hunters need to be aware of all dangers in the field regardless of how improbable a big cat attack may be.

Kind of amazing, isn't it, the distances folks are traveling to experience Kansas. Shows what a great resource it is and how good of a job (WIHA, reasonable non-resident fees, hospitality) the state and its citizens are doing in welcoming sportsmen who live elsewhere.

I'd move to Kansas if I were not married. The wife isn't so keen on the idea.
I've traveled to a lot of states to upland bird and turkey hunt and Kansas is at the top of my list. Not just for the hunting, I think that the people there are the nicest of anyplace that I've hunted.

Come on lightweights. Give in to your passion!
I got home from my 20 hr. trip on Sun. the 29th and amgoing back on the 12th.

Great to hear their are some quail. I come from sw mo a few times a year to the greensburg area. Anyone know of a good place to stay. Last year the only hotel in greensburg was too expensive and filthy. Also anyone know of some good dog boots and tips getting them to stay on.

Ugly Dog Hunting sells a set that has a zipper and two velco straps. These tend to stay on, last a long time and we have not lost one yet. Although we don't use them that often, just in the snow.

VGH, is that you in a hocky outfit? What team are you on.

Hotel

1st Interstate Inn - was bad this year.
It cost about $80 a night for 2 beds - you could only see the tv from one bed or the other.

That's were we always stay, but it's gone downhill in the past two years. New owners - raised the price and quailty is less.

There is a sign for Quality Inn/Days Inn or something. Says coming soon, but construction has not started.
There is a two story building across the street from there by the RV park. It may be a hotel. But I didn't see a sign.

Don't be fulled by the "Kansan Resturant" by the hotel. Not country cooking. It's a decent Mexican Resturant. Try it once.

We use electric tape to hold the dog boots on. It works well.

Try www.dogbooties.com . They are boots that dog mushers use. I have used them a lot. They stay on and they are pretty inexpensive.

Well said, sir.
