Gun Storage

I need something relatively inexpensive but secure (locking) to store my guns. I have less than 10 shotguns and I would like to store ammunition in it as well. Any suggestions?

5 gun chest on amazon @ 160.00 several other 8-10 gun cabinets in that price range.
A closet 2 eyebolts and a cablelock. Would do the same thing

To be honest if you're not concerned about fire ratings you can take an old military or school locker and use it for locking gun storage until you can afford a bigger stronger safe. $100 gun cabinets are about the same just with some felt gun holders. You can find used lockers online for around $50-100.

You can also look into getting a used tool storage chest. Inexpensive horizontal gun cabinet.

stack-on makes 8 or 10 gun safes (forget the exact gun count) that actually lock up for under $150. this would be the route I would go if I wasn't concerned with fire protection.

Take one closet in your home and install a exterior steel door with pressed hinges you cant remove. Has a deadbolt, rout in a steel plate in the jamb for long torx screws to go in to a stud, which now is the strike plate. Mount the door so you have to open it out. Your not kicking it in then. If they want in that bad they will be stopped by nothing. Someone could chain saw your house open if they wanted too LOL. But a door like that can be bought for that range, and even a decent one used on craigs list. Not being able to remove hinge pins is the key. And any room will do, or just frame one up in the basement. You now have a secure gun "room".

You could line the inside with 5/8" type X sheetrock and get decent fire protection. I had one(stack-on) bolted to my closet and some crackhead managed to peel the top corner back and get my mom's diamond ring. Never got my guns tho. I used the insurance $$ to get a better safe. I think if you lined it with 3/4" ply you could have the best of both worlds. I put a sticker on mine now: "Black Powder Inside- Use a torch and you'll get blown to Hell- right where you belong". Seems you might be held liable if you don't warn the scum.
