duck hunting?

Went and did a little duck hunting yesterday. I went to get the dog later in the day and when I got there, they had a duck down in the water. The dog that was there was pretty old and she was tired from the long day at that point.

I sent my GSP in the water and he spotted it and went into a point......after a couple minutes of persuasion we were able to get him to grab it and bring it back for us.

Is this something I should stay away from doing? I guess I never thought of it until my buddy said something about the dog picking up nasty habits. I paid a lot of money o have him trained and would hate to end up taking a step back. He is only a year old, so should I wait to take him duck hunting until he gets a little older?
 
NO WAY!
GSP's are classified as a versatile hunting dog. They can duck hunt. Use your dog to its fullest!

Just glad the water wasnt to deep when it went on point, he may have drowned!:p

He was up to his neck, so it was sort of funny to see. The other guys didnt know what to think.
