I shot his buck Sat evening It was chasing two fawns. As it came running thru I grunted and it stopped I shot Three inches above the bottom of the chest right on the leg bone deflecting 14 inches out the bottom of the stomach It tokk on jump and stood there all I saw was the entrance hole and that it was a pass through.Hoping for a heart hit but grabbed another arrow and shot again this was still low same hieght and 6inches behind the leg and went out the same exit hole as he first.I was shooting through brush on the second shot and did not see the hit .It went about 20 more yards and stopped again but I could not get a shot then it moved out of site. I packed up my gear then checked for blood .Both arrows were soaked red and it left a fair blood trail I walked out to the las place I saw it and it was 50 yards ahead standing not knowing if it was the same deer it trotted to the end of the grove and around the corner stopping in front of a trail cam I have there the crossed the road and stood in a waterway then took off like nothing was wrong and disappear over the hill a 1/4 mile away.I went back to the trail cam and checked the pics and saw the belly hit then left till morning I tracked it into a big slough 400 yds wide and was walking down the shore for a blood trail when I met duck hunter He said he saw some duck hunters across the other side looking at some thing so I walked around and there he was.It was a half mile pull to get him out. Sorry about the long storyHere are some pics

Holy Moly!!!! That is incredible!!!! Glad you were able to finally find him!!!:10sign:

Before I read your description, the first thing came to mind that this deer was hit by another buck. I have a video of a nice buck in SD that died a prolonged death due to another buck's rack piercing his side and puncturing his liver. He cleared the ground (dug into it) around his hooves from kicking so much before he died. You could just tell the deer suffered for a long length of time.

Anyway, one of the worst feelings out there is when one thinks he may have lost an animal. Worse yet, it may be crippled and suffering. Such a unfortunate event will keep us up all night thinking and praying about/for that animal. The search will continue with the first morning light. Morning can't come fast enough when one's in such a situation.

Sometimes we find them, other times the coyotes beat us to them, other times there gone for good and we swear to ourselves it will never happen again.

In this case, the ending was a good one. One deer in the freezer and maybe a few steaks already consumed.

I'll just hold my comment so I dont offend anyone.

Then why post??? If it bothers you to see actual hunting situations, don't hunt or post!! Shot with a stick and string! Even happens with a rifle from time to time! !!! REALITY!!!

What did you find for internal damage when you field dressed him.

What was your initial shot angle..

Glad you found him..

Great job recovering that deer. I know too many people that give up tracking after a few hundred yards

Congrats ! Nice work ! Meat in the freezer !

My question as well. Stuff happens when hunting. I applaud this guy for staying with the deer until found. True sportsman. Good job and enjoy the steaks!

I shot broadside and hit the top of the leg bone which deflected the arrow angling back going through the bottom 2 inches of chest cavity then out the back hole you see in the deer. The second shot entered just behind the front leg and agled back out the same hole as the first.I shot thru a lot of brush the second shot.It bled a lot but pretty sure no damage in the chest cavity and it died from the stomach wound. The insides were cool but not cold 27 degrees was the morning temp.
