Wiha around Cheyenne Bottoms?

how does the Pheasant look this year? This will be my first trip to Kansas for Pheasant, coming from Dallas. From reading on here, it looked like a decent area to go visit between the public land at the bottoms and wiha in the area. Is there an area that would be much better this year? Pheasant is my main goal, but I wouldn't turn down a quail covey or two :)

This is my first time on this forum, but reading through it, I appreciate the willingness of you guys to help fellow hunters - even us out-of-staters.

Thanks!

There is a pretty decent population of birds there. Traveling in different directions of CB may yeild very different results. Even though #'s are down on some sides of Great Bend, there are still plenty of birds out there for a good time. The factor that will determine your fate is how much pressure those WIHA parcels have recieved. I couldn't tell you how hard those WIHA's have been getting hit these past couple of weeks. There are times during late season when WIHA's are loaded due to weather and declining hunter numbers as the season progresses.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks.

One of my coworkers is from Wichita, and he also recommended the WIHA near Bucklin near Dodge City. Any thoughts on if you could only try one, which would you try?

Pheasants in Kansas look good. I would not recommend the WIHA around the bottoms. Was there last weekend and we didn't stop to hunt. Drove by them and the cover was poor and there was no feed around most of the ones we drove by. You need to head Northwest of GreatBend and you should be able to get into some birds on public ground.

Unless you are looking to hunt ducks too, I would come another hour and a half and hunt near Webster reservoir if you are looking for a mixture of public and WIHA. Lots of public stuff near the lake and a good bit of WIHA within a short distance.

I think Stockton may be a little far for me to drive. That's about....9.5 hours from Dallas? I was hoping for something a little closer...
