Where to hunt with hopes of success

I know Michigan isn’t the destination for pheasant hunting due to its decline in resources, but I know it’s slowly coming back and there are alot of ranches out there. As far and BLM and public lands; had any of y’all had success with pheasant hunting in Michigan? Release areas I know will look like a pumpkin patch, so those aside is there still good field habitat out there and is it accessible?

Look at the southern third of the state and the Hunter Acess Program, HAP. This is similar to SD CREP Program. Some good areas. Outside of that look at area north of Ohio and in the thump area of Michigan for public and HAP ground. Can be good if timing is right. Otherwise alot of mile on the boots.

That’s great info. Thank you!!

A number of the public lands in the upper Thumb area have excellent pheasant habitat. Like a previous poster said, the HAP properties can be very good too. Many are selected for their pheasant habitat.

It has been 6 years since I lived and hunted in that area, but I did quite well.

This resource will help you to identify properties open to hunting and their habitat types.

Thanks for that info. I’m located more west Michigan but willing to travel for good quality hunts and land. Thumb seems to be the best area.
