Hi everyone

My father and I were having a fatherto son talklol about when the stae stops releasing birds . I siad it was the last week of the pheasant season he say this week what do you guys think?

Thanks Remtech

Usually most public grounds get the last release thanksgiving Week. Bong gets stocked til the first week in December.

..... But dont get too hung up on getting after those birds the day or week theyre released. The best hunting is in december when the football crowds and fair weather hunters stay in the recliner. Some of those released birds become pretty wiley after a few weeks!!

And don't stick to the usual places. When I have hunted the stocked areas I usually go as far from the most logical stocking places as possible and work towards them. If a bird is going to escape the army of hunters it's going to be away from the heavily hunted spots.

And it if did escape it's smarter than the average dunce pen raised bird.

with all the standing corn that was up in places, I bet there will be a lot of birds still out there.

Talked to a DNR worker last Thursday out on the Vernon Marsh property and he said they will be releasing until the last weekend in November.

just thought I would give this thread a little bump.

Just because the state isn't personally stocking birds in some places anymore, that doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't still state birds getting put out.

hunting clubs and pheasant forever chapter may have purchased birds through a state program, and may still be releasing birds.

just thought I would pass that along. I was unaware of this until this last weekend when I was invited along to help put some out

Ummm....where about was that? ;)

Don't give up on PHG simply because its been a while since birds got dropped. There's very few guys hunting them anymore...and there are birds to be had if you work for them. The "easy" birds are gone...what are left are survivors. That said, I got a message from a buddy who he and his friend got three roosters at Rome on Saturday and got one at Vernon Marsh sunday.

I am still very optimistic I will come home with some this Friday. I will let you know what I find.

Most were put in the tall grass but I am sure some were released in the fencelines. :D

Everyone who I know who has been muzzleloader hunting says they are seeing a lot of roosters, so no doubt they are there. But as mentioned above, they ain't sitting in the "easy" spots.

Looks like a rough winter ahead, so if we don't get them mother nature probably will. Last I checked, there was a decent warm up for next week, but maybe that changed.

Looks like there will be some fresh snow on Friday too. Which will better the chance of running them roosters down.
