What the he**

So Thurs. morning I head over to Homestead , Mt from here in Glasgow, It is a frosty morning with an existing snow pack of 3 inches or so with temps by the time I get over to Sheridan county about 5 below but its perfectly calm and sunny, pretty nice by our standards. Driving up the gravel road towards my buddies place, I see a couple of pickups and about 8-9 guys in blaze orange walking the block management to the south of his place, they continue marching to the north by the time I get to my buddies farm, their is a helicopter hovering just to the east with something dangling below it.....I was beginning to wonder if the Govt. hadn"t finally sent the men in black, but I was confused, since they were all in Blaze Orange!!! However, I didnt notice them shooting as birds piled out of the crp and creek bottom, I found this a little confusing, since it looked like they had some pretty decent shots at roosters, so I am still watching the helicopter, and keeping an eye on the guys on the ground when I spoke with my buddy on the phone and he said they were Seismographers, looking for black gold I guess....was quite the sight. I almost felt bad for them as I pulled the ole shotgun out and readied it for some fast and furious pass shooting thanks to my "beaters" on the ground!!! Now I know how those fancy Euro's do it:rolleyes: I tell you what, those "beaters" have a heck of a job...walking miles of crp in prime pheasant country and NOT being able to carry a gun, that would SUCK!!! It was really quite something to watch though, the heli dropping some sort of orange tarp with equipment on it and the "beaters" unwrapping them and me shooting birds as they flew by!!! Merry Christmas!!!

Don't kid yourself. Those were black government helicopters preparing to take away your guns, your women, your children, your property, your clothing, and your rights. Stay vigilant.

The helicopter was dropping "cache" bags with the cables and "jugs" and the guys laying them out are "juggies". All the cables run back to a truck called the "doghouse". If they're setting up there, they'll probably being bringing the vibrators in to take their recording of the ground below unless they had rigs drilling holes and dropping dynamite in the holes that will soon get shot. I was a doodlebug (term for seismic worker) for 5 years when I got out high school. Spent some time up their running vibrators many years ago.

Funny but there used to be a lot of that being done out here in the Sacto. Valley in years past. You'd be driving through rice fields and come across all these little cans with spike bottoms driven in the ground and connected by wires. There'd be miles of them on the shoulder of the road and out the levee roads in the rice all connected back to usually two big diesel bobtail trucks with big plates on their bottoms. They connect to the grid and jack the trucks up off the ground so they were supported on the plates and vibrate for a period of time and move on to another connector.
You don't see them anymore. I guess they mapped all the deposits in the valley and no longer need to do that work.
Like all activity and money that comes from extraction of resources, eventually what they want will be depleted and it will go back to what is sustainable and the plains states will be depopulated again. Maybe sooner, maybe later but it will always be so.

-5 degrees IS pretty mild up on the Highline this time of year. Nice to be able to wear shorts in Montana during Pheasant season, huh? Spent a lot of Summers up that way on my cousin's place south of Redstone when I was a kid.
