Western WI Pheasants

Hi there..new to this forum..I was really happy to find a forum dedicated to WI pheasant hunting!

While I'm not a new hunter (I'm 37), I'm pretty new to pheasant hunting...I just bagged my first two roosters this year..even though they were 'plants' it was really fun! I've also been working w/ my 1.5 year old lab ... he's got a great nose but ist still pretty 'raw' however I've been working with him and he loves to be out in the fields with me and his field training is starting to come along.

I saw on the Wild Birds thread a lot of info about areas to try for pheasant...I'm looking to get out a few times over the next couple weeks and am wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions for the St. Croix/Pierce/Dunn county area....I saw on the WI DNR website several 'put and take' areas in Dunn county by Menomonie and was wondering if anyone has any experience with those...

FYI, I posted a similar question on the Wild Birds thread so I apologize for the double post :)

welcome aboard! Cant help on the wild birds..I haven't found one in the state yet this year and the lack of snow means I probably wont. Hard to believe tomorrow if Dec 17th and we havent had a trace yet and there's no snow in the forecast through Christmas

I went yesterday East of Menomonie on DNR land spent all pm out there & did not see a bird. I am going to try some more today west of town by weston. I wish I had more private land to hunt. I have GSP & a young golden if you ever want to go sometime let me know, I also am a member at Whispering Emerald south of town.

There are a lot of grounds around the menomonie area. The put and take you are referring to, is the Dunnville bottoms area, south of Menomonie. Most of the areas east of town are more of a wild bird population. There are a lot of places to walk and not move anything but then there are a few that always hold birds. The first couple of weekends are absolutely nuts with people, but it usually slows down after that. Shoot me a pm and I can let you know some more specific spots, I quit hunting pheasants for the most part, I find more wild birds grouse hunting.

I never did make it to the lands in western Dunn county...before the end of the season I hit several of the public lands in St. Croix County with no roosters... i did get a few hens up.

The last week of the season here in St. Croix county looked like opening weeked all over again...every public land parking lot had a truck or two in it.
