Blizzard WarningStatement as of 3:11 AM MST on December 20, 2011

... Blizzard Warning remains in effect until noon CST /11 am MST/
today...

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until noon CST /11 am MST/
today.

* Timing... light to moderate snow will continue through mid
morning... and then begin to taper off from west to east. Near
blizzard and blizzard conditions will end by late morning or
early this afternoon.

* Snowfall... reports and radar estimations in excess of 7 inches
of snow have fallen already north and west of a line from
roughly Elkhart to Garden City to Ness City. An additional 2 to
3 inches is expected north of Highway 156 before ending
bringing storm total accumulations of 9 to 12 inches. Farther
east... accumulations will be less with 4 to 7 inches of snowfall
expected from Liberal to Dodge City to Larned.

* Other impacts... north winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to near
40 mph at times will blow the snow and reduce visibilities.
These strong of winds... combined with the snow... will promote
near whiteout conditions in areas of blowing and drifting
snow. Several major highways are closed across far southwest
Kansas. Please refer to the Kansas Department of
Transportation on the internet or by calling 5-1-1 in Kansas
for Road closure information.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.
