So, with thursday and Friday being in the single to low double digits, who will get out? One last push before deer season?
What do you think the birds will do in that cold?

Kbell I just sent you a PM.

I just returned from an attempted hunt this afternoon. Couldn't manage it. From lack of visibility, to steady rain, to now 25+ mph winds. Wasn't meant to be. I'm hoping for a calm afternoon and flexible work schedule tomorrow.

I'll be deer hunting Sat and Sun.

I'll be headed out with the pup tomorrow afternoon for one last go of it before deer. I didn't get a doe with my bow so I'm doing something super unusual for me - headed out this weekend with the shotgun... brrr!

i got off at 2:30 but had to stop and get gas bye the time i got home i said the heck with it. im going out tomorow after work for a 1.5 hour loop. i saw about 15-20 birds on my way home from a hunt yesterday evening. but im thinking this wind will just kick them up wild so im gonna let them be until tomorow winds will be calm and it will be alittle dryer out. im not a deer hunter anymore so im not at all excited about the next two weeks. but i do get 16 days off through christmas:10sign::thumbsup:

I have one more doe tag to fill with my bow. But if I dont, then I will pick up the late muzzleloader. Just cant bring myself to run around with everyone shooting. You be sure to be careful and stay safe.

I will be out a couple of days around dec 1th if you want to hunt. I think we will be fine so long as we stay clear of timber.

Living right?

No hunts this weekend for me. First deer season. I will try to get out on Thurs. or Friday. Looks like heavy snow for the birds in Mn and portions of SD. I believe the Mt and Id birds also got hit by heavy snows.

We are living right so far in Iowa. Keep your fingers crossed. By the way pheasants have been known to survive temps in the 70 below range.

not many deer or deer hunters back by farm. might go calling coyotes. lots of yotes on this years trail cams. lots of pictures of does with no fawns. time to take action and smack some yotes

Thanks! We have a small group (3) and will sit in the mornings and then do a push if we have to.

Would love to get together for a hunt - looks like you missed a number on that date though.. when were you thinking? :)

Welp, another $30 donation to our DNR as I didn't get a shot off first season. Had 4 does run through at about 250 yards but those were the only deer I saw. I'll admit with the subzero temperatures I didn't give it all I had - just sat 3 hours and pushed a couple small timbers. I did manage to get a friend out on her first hunt. She's going to try pheasant and duck hunting next fall. Always trying to get the ladies to join me and there aren't many who will agree to try again after sitting out in THAT kind of cold!

The guys I hunt with killed a couple does and a spike, so they shared some of the meat so I think I'll skip late muzzy and just focus on the birds. The dog will appreciate that. I make a crappy deer hunter anyway. ;)

Dang it. Im heading up tomorrow to hunt for the day. I have to remember to give you a heads up. I figure I will head that way 5-6 more times befre the season is done. I will leave you my number, if you dont hear from me, give me a call.
I agree, have to keep working on getting women outdoors.

Cool - good luck tomorrow! I was seriously considering taking the day off to chase 'em but we're swamped so it'll have to be another day. Looking forward to getting together sometime. :)

What kind of dogs do you run?

I have a GSP who was 'gifted' to me in March... which is really the reason I got back into upland hunting. The closest thing I've done in the past few years is hep out with our youth and veteran hunts (planted birds)... but his excitement has me chasing roosters again, even if it means we put on several miles for each bird. He's the first pointer I've hunted with and I'm really impressed. :)

Gifted dogs often make the best companions! Cant wait to meet oyu both. Just let me know the days you can get off and we will work something out. Time is getting short and it is getting tougher, but it will be fun.

I forgot where you are exactly? I wouldnt mind helping on the veteran hunts if oyu arent to far.

I'm going to be stuck here most of next week but I can take time off the week of near year's or the next one. I'll be gone both weekends, though!

I live in Iowa County, SW of Cedar Rapids. The Veteran and Youth hunts are with a couple PF Chapters that I help out with - sprinkled across the state. So depending on where you are, there might be something close! They tend to be in October, right before the season starts up.
