Ulysses area questions?

I will be hunting the Ulysses area for the first time, I have a place to hunt but I am loking for something to kill a few hours here and there as I am going to be there 6 days. Any small gun stores in the area as I like collecting guns. or a watering hole to have  in the evening? Or a good old fashioned auction junk sale!

If you're lucky, it will rain and you can watch the cracks dry up...
I've hunted around Ulysses, but never stayed there, sorry. no help

watering holes

Run down to Moscow one evening and go to the Antlers. Its a fun local watering hole and has good food. Besides you find a local that has a pheasant problem. An interesting story after the 2007 season I had lunch with a local farmer who I hunted on. He actually thanked me for coming out and help to thin out the pheasants. He felt that in the spring during corn planting the pheasants destroyed several acres of newly planted corn by plucking the kernels out of the soil. I mentioned this to serveral other area farmers and they concurred that it actually does happen.
So this could be a novel approach when asking permission to hunt.

There is a good mexican food place there on main street. We drove up from Hugoton last year and were pleasantly surprized to find good mex food. Looked like some good shops along the street that would be fun to browse through. Check AuctionZip to see if there are any auctions going on in the area when you will be there.

My in-laws are from Ulysses so we spend quite a bit of time out there. To tell you the truth there's not much to do there besides hunt. There's a couple good mexican places to eat but not much for bars anymore. You can usually find some places to prairie dog hunt or coyote hunt in the afternoons if it gets too warm. Or you can hunt in the morning and then go back and take a nap in the afternoon and then get up and hunt in the evening once it starts cooling down. There's some very good people out there and if you do a little driving around you can probably find some farmers who'd be willing to let you hunt. My group of 4 will be out there Opening Weekend again. Best of luck to you. Let us know how your hunt went.

thanx guys, I have lots of private land to hunt, I think I will do some of my favorite past time stuff between hunting, like driving around looking for new spots, watching other wildlife, enjoying the scenery, maybe a few cold ones after the guns are put away!
