This will be Josey's first season in the field. She is a 15 month old lab with a seemingly great nose as she quickly finds pen raised birds. She is collar conditioned, but she is very sensitive to stimulation, and even a change in tone of my voice.
Her issues have been apparent from early on. She just is loose with her fetching. She will retrieve bumpers to hand....most times. Sometimes she dumps them at my feet. We work on the hold command a lot.
The big issue is retrieving actual birds. Sometimes she might pick it up, and bring it too me, other times she starts picking feathers.
Does anyone have any suggestions on techniques I can use to bring her along? When my 4.5 year old lab is involved in the fetching, Josey will get competitive and bring the bird back to me.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
