Training birds

There used to be a farmer (maybe still there) on 24 hwy out by clay center that raised birds. I bought a few from him back in high school for a biology project. I don't remember any of his info. Can't miss his place if you drive out there, it's right on the highway, pretty obvious with all his nets and pens. Nice guy, I showed up and knocked on his door and he was pleasant even though I showed up unannounced. Good luck! Let me know if you go out there

I contacted him yesterday after reading that, since I generally take the dogs out there a few times before the season starts. The owner told me he had pheasants and would be happy to fix me up. I usually buy three or four at a time and plant them myself. Pretty nice guy, and very easy going.

It will definitely cost more than some other options out there, but I like the aspect of buying them and using them immediately. Having to build an enclosure and taking care of game birds or pigeons is not something else I want to add to my list of daily duties at the moment.

That's why I buy training birds and use them within a day.
A buddy called them and wanted to bring some clients in and he told me that they were closed down. Place right off of 24? So he had to go west to a game farm and had a terrible time.

Yeah, checked out the link... It's a different place then what Roosterbuck and I are talking about. The place right off of 24 is closed down.

It's the huge pens on the South side of 24, just East of Clay Center. His CSA is just West of Clay Center a few miles.

I don't know, maybe he isn't doing the hunts anymore? Either way, he said I could get birds.

Sorry about your friend's experience. I found another place last year that I think was North of Wamego somewhere that I used when McNeil ran out of birds. Good experience there too, and fair price for pheasants.

If anybody wants more info I can look it up and post it.

I have heard good things about that place north of Wamego.

Honestly, if we are talking about the same dude, then cool. Hope he stays open.

But I've never done a "canned" hunt per se, so I don't know. I do use birds for training though.
