Thinking of adopting a puppy

Last summer we adopted Dutch, horrible past, now she's doing great, fetching ducks, and coming around on pheasant.
My wife found an 8 week old, what really looks like a PP at a shelter. This will be my daughter's (9) dog if we're selected. She wants her own dog and we had conversations about her responsibilities, she also comes hunting with me. Is it possible to strike a balance between it being her dog and my other hunting buddy?
We'll see how the adoption works out.

I got my son a Vizsla female when he was younger and she was always his dog from day 1 but she was also my buddy. Sort of like have a grand child....
