Things go full circle :)

I am not that old - late forties -, but old enough to remember when you could walk into something called a building that housed things called stores. Remarkable you could enter those buildings and look at, touch and try on things like - well let's say hunting boots. And, even in smaller towns you could find lots of boots to try on, because remarkable they ALL fit a little differently. Today, if you want to shop you are almost forced to use one of the electric information machines - okay I think they call them computers. From there you can shop for the best price (even I know how to do that), but you can't tell crap from the photos on line. When they arrive they feel "okay", but not "right". Do I ship back and order another? How long will this take? Well on cyber Monday, I ordered 11 pair and all have arrived. It is amazing how great it is to put one style on the left foot and one on the right and walk around. Honestly all would be okay, but two pair really stand out. One of these days maybe someone will build or rent a building, buy some inventory and open a store where you can try stuff on :)

You've found a unique solution to getting the right fit. I might ad that I'm a Danner boot fan and buy models that are offered in B width which provides me with a snug, non-blistering fit.

Yes, and it is a solution that I don't like but I have a pair of Meidel boots that do not fit and never have been outside. I bought them during an off season and it took me forever to figure out they didn't work. So there went $300 down the toilet because I seem to never sell things on e-bay that I don't need.

I have a very normal/average fit body, but I must have the most abnormal feet ever made. It is hard to find boots that fit well and honestly high quality boots last a long time. The two pair I am replacing are over 10 years old so I wanted a couple pair that really fit and do what I want them to do.

I've had Irish Setter's with 600 gram thinsulate for 15 years...still going but I am breaking a new pair of danners. Now I have two danners, a 600 gram and uninsulated...both have been well worth it and are breaking in nicely. Saved my ankles countless times this pheasant season. In my opinion the Irish Setters were great but I wanted to step up to a better brand name. Yes, brand name buying...but when it comes to footwear...if I can get 15 great years from a marginal brand name, then i'll get more from a better quality brand even. So, thats my experience but i'm average build and height as well.

My old friends don't fit anymore, but they carried me through the most miserable terrain, swamps and muck, that you could imagine. I think they were kangaroo light weight Irish Setters. I keep them out of sentiment...silly, I know, but there you are. :)

Nice forearm securement Kismet......I left a pair of danner Airbob boot made for cabelas that I bought in 1995, unfortunately this pasted hunt in SD, I either walked over a dead skunk or a skunk sprayed nearby. I was walking in thick cattails, good thing only boots hit, bad thing I left them by the outside door of the motel......
