The last Pheasants Forever Journal

Things are a bit slow here, I just got back to the summer edition of the PF Journal, read a short story/article "Sam, For the love of a dog". That hit a bit too close to home for me. It has been over a year and that story got the water flowing, glad no one else was home at that moment.

Also some pics from a different story, showed the dog with the googles on. I remember a member here with a pic of his dog sporting those.

In the article "Breeds Apart" about some non-mainstream dog breeds, it seemed like many of these mentioned, they "turn the switch-off" when not hunting. Maybe a good reason we upland bird hunters don't all have GSPs! I know some here that may have had more than one GSP, said their dogs were never the ever the wound-up bundles of energy that I have experienced. Shaking & teeth chattering when heading out on a hunt...not any fun to sit in a field on opening day (or any other), waiting for 8:00AM with these dogs in the truck. In their early years, if they are awake, the throttle is pinned-down, testing your patients for sure, but what they give you in the field makes up for it. I do love a good GSP!

The last article I will mention is the "Carry and Cashe" story, wriiten by a bird hunting vet, good information on what to carry, in your vest and in the truck.

Some good reading as usual, just trying to get by until opener!

The switch grass looks like it will only be around 4 feet tall this year, much easier to hunt. Guessing we will see many long-spurs again this year as this hot and dry year has been nowhere near optimal for the chicks.
