Only a few more days to get out there and shoot the freebies. Going to be cold, so dress warm out there!

I was shocked how many hunters were out this weekend. The spots I have had all to myself for the last month were hit pretty hard. I only found one pheasant all weekend, but I did stumble upon 15 or so bobwhite quail! I have never seen then before and luckily I didn't shoot because the season was closed on the 11th, but seeing them made it worth going out.

Have fun, be safe.

I can't handle these bitter cold days anymore, but it has been a good season for me and Mick.

Well today turned out to be nothing more than a cold walk. Dog got birdy a couple times, but it was way too cold to spend a lot of time out there. My dogs......ummmm.....family jewels were my indicator on when we were out there long enough Lol!

I plan on hunting tomorrow, but probably not Wednesday, so 1 more day to go. :(

I hope no one plans on going out Wednesday ;)

A friend and I hunted Bong on Sunday. We hunted frozen cattail marshes and some red willow thickets but never put up a bird. Sad to see the season end - it was a great season for me and the pups for a lot of reasons. But....we've found where a few decent sized bluegills are. :)

Good luck. Hopefully everyone will be too hungover to join you Lol!

I won't be able to get out today or tomorrow now, so my actual season is over. I have a few more birds to shoot at the game farm though, so that will keep the dog happy for a little while longer.

Overall it was an OK season for me. I honestly expected to do a little better than we did, but a lot of it was my fault. Learning to hunt WITH a pointing dog cost us some birds and a little frustration at times, but the last few times out, we started to figure it out. He ranges a little too far for my liking, especially since most the spots I hunt are smaller. I have spoken with my trainer and I am starting to "reel him in" a little and not let him go so far. It makes for a much more relaxing hunt and I think when it comes to nervous birds, it will work out better. Can't wait till next season, hopefully a bunch of birds survive.
