Hello everyone,

I am a novice bird hunter at best, and am taking my wife to the Dodge City area next weekend on her first bird hunt. Does anyone have any advice on how to hunt this area, and what kind of WIHA lands to expect? I am not looking for anyones hot spots, just curious what the WIHA land holds in that area. After looking at the maps we were thinking of starting north of DC.

It will just be she and I, we are going to bring along my lab pup, that I hope will make a bird dog, this will be his first hunt.

Thanks for any info or advice!

That's great you're getting your wife out to chase roosters w/ you. If she's tough enough for the CRP, send me a pm and I've got a couple of great fields for you that aren't too far away from DC.

Just got back from Dodge City hunting with the Wife, and two sons 12 and 7. We hunted WIHA between DC and Jetmore. Had a great time and got plenty chances to shoot some roosters, I shot 2 and missed 2. Wife and kids missed about 8, lol, but they are hooked now. Pheasant were holding pretty tight so the dogs came in very handy. With only four in our group and being somewhat novice pheasant hunters ourselves we relied heavily on the dogs. We tried to work the corners as much as possible. Had such a great time were planning another trip in a couple weeks. Hopefully no rain this time. Good luck and have fun.
