SW Road conditions

Now that I saw a few posts about road conditions, that got me a little worried, as it is something I never considered. I'm headed to west of Liberal a few miles. Has anyone been around there the past few days that could tell me what the secondary road conditions are like? According to the weather (and what forecast, since they all seem to vary), it looks like there is going to be some precipitation headed that way Monday/Tuesday, which probably won't help the road conditions any. Any hunting reports from around there? Don't know that I've seen any reports from SW area, but I can imagine they are like the rest. Birds in the area, just gotta look for them. It is just going to be me and my faithful companion, Georgia, trying to kick up birds to shoot at. We go every year together and seem to do better alone than we do with other people. Added to the fact I love sittin out on the prairie, just me and her watching the sun rise and set in the field. I have to listen to people talk all day, so I enjoy the alone time for sure. Any reports, road conditions are greatly appreciated.

Find the cover and you will find some birds. Pay attention to which fields were irrigated. I have seen a lot more birds around where the fields were irrigated than ones that were not. "Just a hint" and also stay close to the feed. There are spots in that area that have much better bird numbers than people think. If your real real lucky maybe you will find a scale. I've heard there out there but I have never seen one. Have a good hunt and watch the weather. Roads I'm not sure about.

I don't imagine the roads could be too wet, its dryyyyyyyyyyy out there. It'll take a lot of moisture for them to catch up. I make the trip twice a year. Can only remember putting it in 4-wheel drive once, and that was on bad tires. They maintain the roads pretty well. IF YOU CAN FIND SOME COVER I'm sure you'll do OK.

The roads are currently dry no problems. However we have rain and snow forcast for Sunday night and Monday. But if you have four wheel drive and good tires you still shouldn't have much problem getting around. Was out in the country late yesterday afternoon and saw a few roosters. They were coming out of grass and going out on green wheat. My suggestion look for the heaviest cover close to green wheat or feed. The problem will be finding heavy cover. It will be spotty.

one thing you don't have to worry about is mud
we had .39" of rain- sand roads were fine that morning- if it pours which it hasn't in a year- ground clearance and willing to slip and slide a bit is really the only issue- if you're worried- set of chains for the drive wheels will get you anywhere

if you enjoy wide open, dry country, and the peace and quiet, you and your girl will have a good time

Dangit, got my hopes all up and it looks now there is going to be TOO MUCH snow forecasted. Sounds like it has the potential to be a bit nasty where I was planning on going. If I were going with someone I'd feel a little better about it. But just me and my lil gal I'm not sure.

SW KS is primarily sand - if it rains it drains off in a hurry. (Hint thats why all the feed lots and pig farms are there) you only need to worry about snow drifts if it actually does end up snowing. No need to worry about mud. Just dont be an idiot and drive into snow if you dont know how deep it is.

Love hunting that area due to the terrain and most importantly finding any mud is rare. I hate being wet and I cant STAND walking in mud. Too bad the bird populations have been crap especially the honey holes I used to have in Finney county. Havent had a reason to go back the past couple of years.
