SW Kansas

Will be hunting SW Kansas (Kismet) area this Thanksgiving weekend. How are the numbers and the WIHA'S? I have about 4 sections of private land to hunt but 3 folks and 2 dogs it may be tough in the big fields. Any tricks or suggestions?

Bird numbers seem to be about average in Southwest Kansas this year. Not as good as they were two years ago, but much better than last year. You should be able to get into some birds. Hunting those big CRP fields can be a little imtimidating, I section them off and don't try to hunt the whole thing at once. I like to hunt for 30-45 minutes or so then move the truck up a ways and do it again. Another method is to get into those big fields and just follow the dog.

Just got back from Garden City area. Did fine in my book. We found, even with the big fields, that find food around the fields and hunt near the food. They seem to hang in there. We did find birds elsewhere, but were very spooky. Hunt them slow and I'm sure you will do fine. Enjoy your hunt and good luck. Looking forward to hearing how you did when you get back!

Thanks for the info. The private land I have available to hunt is all row crop with 7 acre corners and I know last time we were up there, there were a lot of WIHA around

Rod I think you are just being humble. You probably could have gone anywhere in Kansas and found some birds with such a good dog. I have a Vizsla and wouldn't trade him for the world!!!

Thanks for the report. I will be in the Garden City area the 1st week of December. Pm if you would and let me know where you saw the most birds.

Thanks,

Jesse
