Sunglasses/shooting glasses?

Like most, I just usually wear my regular RayBans when I hunt. But as I'm getting a bit older, being able to identify gender of a bird in the air is getting tougher, especially in brighter sunlight at bad angles.

Any suggestions if there is something to improve things? Yellow, amber, vermillion color in some shooting glasses? Different for sunlight versus overcast?

I've used several different colors and have found that for an all around pair that yellow has been the best for me. I have had several pairs through the last 12 years since I started wearing them. I really like my Wiley X glasses I use now. They're nice because I can switch from my normal lenses for sunglasses to my yellow lenses for hunting.

I am by no means an expert on this topic, however i did some research last year on this topic. One very interesting thing I learned has to do not with color but with the amount of tint. The more tint (less light allowed through lens) the more your pupil will dilate. Just like a wide open aperture on your camera. What happens to your focal range when your aperture is wide open? it becomes very shallow. The same thing happens to your vision. It is important to use the least amount of tint necessary. In order to keep a deep focal plane.

Shooting glasses

I'd agree with the above post. I use the Decot Vlite rose in the two lightest tints. They , at least for my eyes, sharpen everything and seem to just feel right.

A few years ago I bought "Allen" over the glasses, yellow tint for sporting clay shooting. Made a big difference, especially on cloudy days. These fit over my regular glasses - like goggles.

Available on Amazon - $8.
