Sumner County

I have hunted Sumner County 3 days now and the pheasant population seems to average but the quail numbers seems to be up. The group I hunted with Saturday. Men from Neb. Tex. & Kansas 10 pheasants 3 quail not great by SD or Western Kansas standards but we had a great time. This same group got just 3 pheasants in two days in 2007 so we are getting better.

Lots of reports of anywhere from 14-10 pheasants per day per group. Most groups have been 8-11 men.

Another good report! Thanks for sharing it with us. It sounds like quail numbers are up just about everywhere which makes a lot of us dog owners very happy.

Best of luck in the remainder of the season!

Its been a while since I hunted Sumner county. Not much walk in land, but good looking quail habitat. Hunted close to there several years ago on Kaw WMA. Found quail and saw a lot of pheasants crossing the road driving in. This was 1999. How about Harper county. I used to like the WIHAs there, although there isn't many listed this year. Used to be a WIHA of about 800 acres south of Anthony next to a big state lake and a 160 acre WIHA just to the west of the big one that we would find a lot of quail and pheasants. I would love to go back there one day.

Good Attitude

I like your attitude about the number of birds in the bag not necessarily related to the amount of fun hunting. That's good karma.
