Stoeger O/U?

I am in the market for an O/U but have a small sized budget. I was wondering if anyone had any insight or impressions on the Stoeger O/U Condor? New the retail mid 300's..Are they a decent entry level O/U or are they not worth the smaller price tag due to mechanical and craftsmanship issues..Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

I bought one of the early ones (mid-90s) which never failed me but is not nearly as nice as they are now. It's now a little jiggly in the break hinge. I use it for turkey and should I get the opportunity to jump some ducks, I will use it. All in all you get a double with screw-in chokes for an easy price, a pretty good deal IMO.

I have 2 of them, one in 16ga and one in 410. The 16 ga I use on pheasants and the 410 is just for fun. Both have fixed chokes. I NEVER had a problem with either gun. What you get is a NO frills weapon-- bottom barrell always fires first---has extactors not ejectors on fired shells---ok but not fancy wood or fit and finish.

My 16 ga fits me very well and is a bird killing joy to shoot--in my exiperence I can recommend one--will it hold up for years and thousands and thousands of rounds--only time will tell--is it as good as a $1000 or more gun--no--but for the money I think it is just the answer you might be looking for.

I purchased the Stoeger Condor Field Combo about 3 years ago for around $400. This gun has interchangeable 12ga and 20ga barrels that fit to the same receiver. I was looking for an O/U gun that I wouldn’t worry about getting scratched up. I am very pleased with my gun. I never think twice about beating down the bushes and I have never had an issue with it shooting. The stock and forearm fit well and the barrels are not too loose. The only negatives are that the safety is a little stiff and there is a pinch point on the bottom when you break open the gun. I really like this O/U, it does what a gun is suppose to do, point…shoot…knock ‘em down. The birds don’t care if a gun has a burled walnut stock and gold inlay. If it makes you feel better, Stoeger is owned by Benelli.

Thanks for all the advice. I actually ended up going with the Stevens 512 Gold Wing O/U..It was on sale and wasnt much more then the Stoeger. I took it to the club yesterady and ran 150 rounds thru it and I love it. It is a tad heavy at 8lbs but thats expected for a double barrel.

I hunted with a Condor II for 4 years. If it had ejectors instead of extractors I would still have it. It never failed me.
