Still Dry On The Ponderosa

It is still hot and dry here. I am up to 6.10" for the year. Way to little for July 17th.

Here is my winter feed for the cows-

I had 0.75" on the 7th and it greened up for a day, then back to burned. I am praying for a rain soon.

On a positive note, I continue to see a few hatches of pheasants and quail and some dandy deer.

Wow that is looking a bit dry, here in Central IL we have had alot of rain this summer, a little to much at times, but our crops are really doing well this year. I hope you all get some rain soon.

Dodge City had a fair shower last night, but only 0.05" at the ranch bring the year's total to 6.15". Many of the dryland crops in the area have gotten some timely moisture, but it seems the ranch is in a black hole and it is so difficult to rain there, but it will---just wish it was sooner rather than later. Another pass on the milo with the center pivot irrigation today. Running a tad over $500 a day for diesel fuel and it takes 75 hours to put an inch on. I keep praying for rain to silence the diesel engine.

Still dry here, but maybe the gulf storms will bring some moisture.

I took these pics on Sunday

Through all this I am still seeing young hatches of pheasant and quail.

I am praying for an end to this drought.

The weather forcast for Colorado is hot, hot, and hotter for the next 10 days... I hope its not heading your way! With any luck you will get that rain coming up from Tx and the storms they are getting hit with.

Holy Cow, boy those are some dry looking fields, I sure hope you all get some rain soon, Do you have any irrigation systems in place?

It is still hot and dry, with nothing in sight.

At 5PM today it was still 106. My youngest, his wife and two kids are home for Dodge City Days. It has been hot taking in the activities. This evening I did the cooking outside. It was halibut from Alaska, beer battered and deep fat fried and some spicy hot baked beans and garlic toast. It was delicious.

It will rain and it will cool down. Seems like it always does a day or two before the dove opener and the dove leave.

Food Plots

Mr. Byrd, thank you for planting food plots in your CRP. Conservation-minded farmers and ranchers like you who spend their own money and energy on habitat and allow habitat development on their private property are owed thanks by every hunter in the US. We all wish for more rain for the Ponderosa this year.
