Standing sunflowers

Earlier this fall I cut across a standing sunflower field to get back to the truck. I ended up flushing 4 roosters in gun range and killing three of them. I would not have predicted this, because it was pretty open down low, and I would have thought they would just run. Some sunflower fields are bare dirt, this one had some thin cover on the ground.

Has anybody else had success in standing sunflowers? I should mention that it was easy to avoid damaging any of the plants.

Floyd, I did very well just walking the perimeter of sunflowers earlier this fall. The birds do love those seeds.

We have done well in the flower fields in ND, Many held tight, with permission, and we had the land owner with. Otherwise i don't think you can go in them out there, at least back then anyway. It was fun. I have done the same thing in corn.
