So Few Birds

On Saturday my huntin' buddy and I walked eight miles in NW in six historically productive fields. We saw 18 pheasants and no quail. He fired two shots, I fired one. He wants to quit for the season to leave the few birds as breeding stock.

Dangit BC, that ain't good. On the flip side, if you hunt a part of the state that never has many birds, 18 in one trip is purdy darn good

My experience this past weekend was similar in numbers, but opposite in interpretation. We saw more birds than expected, but definitely not a lot. This was in an area that is one the edge of pheasant range, so I was happy with the day.

Join the club! Join the club! For the last four years here in IOWA if we see 18 birds in a week that is a very positive thing!

We are all unfortunately heading in the same direction concerning the birds.
