My son and I managed two birds with one lost today. I know I led 3 and 1/2 feet on crossing birds today. The wind was unreal in northwest Iowa!

Sophie managed only one point today on a hen that was so deep that she got caught in the tangle and was unable to take flight until her third attempt. Birds were extremely skittish with runners most of the day.

Here's the good news. On the public and private we hunted. We tallied thirty one hens to the six roosters. A great sign for this area!:p

Back out tomorrow. Will post what I see.

Thanks for the report Kbell. Your hunt sounds very similar to last Friday, unbeleivable winds and birds with running shoes on. Hope you have a good hunt today. The hen counts you report are good news!

Great info! I was just wondering if I should get the mutts out with the wind. I have to head out anyways, so might as well leave early and air out the dogs. Would you hit cattail areas with the wind? Anything I should do diffrent with high winds?

If all else fails, it will be a nice walk for everyone!

Update Just got back from my 2 1/2 hour walk. Tally was 2 deer, 1 duck, 2 hens and 2 roosters.

First hen that got up, I am not sure there was a point. I didnt see the grass moving, so I would like to think he was stopped. WHo knows.
First rooster, I am pretty sure was a bump. No shot taken.
Second rooster was a point, 2 shots taken and missed! I really have trouble with the away shots.( Did I mention I just picked up a gun this year?)
Second hen was a wild flush, that scared the crap out of me!

So, It was a great night, would have been better if we had walked away with a bird. Oh, had a great shot oppertunity with the duck, but didnt have my stamp with me. :-(
