Selby SD report

Got home Tuesday night after an awesome weekend out in the Selby, Eureka SD area. Went with my bro-in-law. My kid bailed the morning of. A girl I'm sure. With the noon start we were able to do a lot of scouting and secure a spot around 11am. We shot our limit in 47 minutes. I also kicked up a coyote (big scruffing looking one) Sunday proved a little harder as we were not able to get the spots we wanted although hunting pressure was much lighter then I expected. Sunday's limit took a little over 3 hours. Monday we made the 50 minute (scouting) trip up to Eureka and ate a little cafe. We counted 67 birds along the roadside. We found 3 spots to try. The first spot produced 4 birds in 18 minutes and a fifth at the 33 minute mark. A limit should have been had my bro missed three fairly easy ones. The next one was taken shortly arriving at the next spot. Beautiful area with very little hunting pressure and there is a lot of public land is what we were hunting.

Great Pics:10sign: Wish I was going to SD this year. We will have to get out late season in MN.

Awsome pictures.. I went out to aberdeen area this past weekend for my first trip to SD. I am not sure if my expecations were incredibly to high or if we just had some really tough luck but it was some hard hunting to say the least. Friday we paid to hunt some private land and our group limited out which was awesome.. After that we hunted public all day saturday and sunday. We got a few birds..saw about 50 hens and had a bunch of roosters flush out way out in front of us. It was so dry up there that all the birds were in face high cat tails..which we did bust through but it made the dog work almost unbearable. All in all it was a great time but due to alot of factors I do not think I would head back to the Aberdeen area.. I would likely head further west and south. We def saw an increase in Birds #'s as compared to MN but honestly they were harder to get to then the birds here in MN. Still a great trip and alot fun but I kept wondering what the hell are we doing wrong? haha

I would head a little further northwest of Aberdeen. There is a lot more public land there. I definitely saw a big drop in road side birds as I approached Aberdeen on the way home and zero once I got passed.
