Safe to Hunt Alone ?

I hunt alone all the time both in Illinois and SD. I'm heading up there solo again this year. One thing I always do, after a bad experience, is keep an extra set of keys for my truck. A couple years ago, I think I put my keys between my chaps and pants, not in my pocket. I was stranded for hours, then had to hitch a ride 75 miles to the nearest chevy dealer to get a new set made.

Outside of the usual gear, that's the only thing I do different.

hunting alone

age has me a little less sure on my feet but I am afraid to slow down cause the next thing is stop. about 60% of my time in the field is alone, just love it, do what ya want, just follow the dog, no explaining to a complaining hunting friend. I do carry the cel, someone knows my schedule and I always go prepared to spend the night if I have too., biggest risk that I worry about is getting stuck. friends are neat to travel with however. one of the reasons I do well bird hunting especially in down years, if I am alone I don't have to see that many birds to have a great hunt

cheers

As a 58 yr old who will be hunting solo in 12 days, I have to ask:

Zip ties?

Good idea on texting location.

I send my wife a text with the location from Google Maps from my parking spot. Only takes 30 seconds and makes me feel better.

Now that's an excellent idea. Going to have to try that one out. I didn't realize google maps allowed that.

Here's one I've used for biking. They finally have it for Android.

Thanks for the idea. Can repurpose biking app for hunting. This app allows for stationary alert..so if u did get injured it will send out a text alert to safety contact.

In case dog gets caught in a trap. Can zip tie the springs to release the pressure. Super strong industrial grade zip ties. I hope but am not completely convinced that they wouldn't break if ever used.
