Just dropped my pup off at the trainers. This means I will not have a dog for the first couple months of the season but I will have a hunting machine come January!

Paul and Julie Knutson at Gun Club Labs in Orchard. Real nice set up from the kennels to the training grounds. Paul worked with me and my dog for about 20 minutes when I dropped him off and I couldn't believe how much both of us learned in that 20 minutes. I started training Jack using Julie's book and the more I researched trainers for pointing labs, the more I realized that this was the way to go. I can't wait to go back up there next month and start to get involved in the training and see where he is at!

Very cool. I did a 2 month program over the summer with my pointer. We went to Ben Garcia at Hideaway Kennels. It was very cool.

One thing I liked about doing that was that I went down there every Saturday and spent a couple of hours learning what he was doing and how he was training them which I think taught me more than it did my dog :)

Where did you get your pup? I have a 5 month old yellow lab male out of P4P labs (Martin Baca), his yellow bitch and the sire is Scooter and GMPR. Never had a pointing lab. I have been training labs for traditional field trials and hunt tests since 1992, however the pointing thing is all new.

Good luck with your pup when you get him back. I have my two females to hunt, one yellow and one chocolate, so there is no rush for Remi, he might be ready come January, we shall see. I am going to run him in some Pointing trails maybe and for sure hunt tests....

My pup is from Red Label Kennels in South Dakota. He breeds and raises pointing labs and runs a pheasant guide service there. This is my first pointer. Paul and Julie are working with him the first month getting him tuned up and then I will be heading up there at least once a week to work with him for the final 2 months. I didn't plan on getting him titled, just wanted a good dog to hunt with but after watching some of the other dogs work when I was up there, I might reconsider.

Sorry, but I can't help but to correct you. :p;) Since he is a lab, he isn't a Pointer persay, he is still a retriever. However, he is a pointing retriever/lab.

You're correct! All I have ever had is labs. This is my first one that points.

Copy that....talking to the breeder (who is on this forum) a couple of the pups in Remi's litter have pointed already. I am picking up some more pigeons today and I will try and work with Remi this weekend and see if I can get a point.
