Road Ditches Question

WHen hunting road ditches are the birds more likely to use a east/west vs north/south ditch based on wind direction or vice versa? I hear that ditches are great areas but I never see any birds when I've tried to hunt them. Any information would be great on this subject.

Pheasants like to position themselves in the sun when possible. Look for ditches with decent cover next to picked corn.
