Risky Raider Blood Lines

A couple of the guys I hunt with bought 2 lab pups that are Risky Raider top and bottom last winter. They are still young but are showing a lot of promise. If they prove out this fall I will be looking for a pup of simular breeding. The breeder they bought the pups from does not plan on making the same cross again due the age of the female. Does anyone have any expierence with this line and are willing to recommend a breeder or a specific cross they are happy with?

Riks Risky Raider was a nice dog, I just bred one of my females to a dog with Raider in him. Raider threw alot of point in the pups, along with great temperment.

HVDK- How soon are you looking to get a pup? I have a female that has Raider blood. Plan on bredding her next spring. If it helps...
Probably going to breed to one of Hunters Rose Kennel dog if you want to check out his site. He is in Dundee, MI.
Or if you are looking for a dog sooner check out Dale @ Hunters Rose I know they just had a litter from some good dogs!:D

Thanks for the response. Depending on how the fall season goes I may or may not need to have a pup ready for the fall of 2011. I really want to hunt behind a pointing lab before I make up my mind if that is the direction I want to go. Keep me in mind when if you breed your dog next year and let me know what sire you picked.

I've been reading a lot of threads and had to post to this one... We had a daughter of Risky's. Dixie passed this past winter at 7-1/2 yrs. She was amazing! She was exactly what I would like in another dog (when the day comes). She pointed as well as a Brittany we hunted with and flushed better than a Golden we hunted with. I loved the combo. After a rough start, she was a fantastic retriever. Her only flaw (probably due to me) was that she did a pretty poor job tracking down birds that dropped a little distance away from her and then ran. She was also a great family pet. I wouldn't mind some Risky blood in my next lab.

Thanks for providing your insight. Everything I have been hearing/seeing regarding this bloodline has been fairly positive. The more I hear the more convinced I am that this is the bloodline I want to go with for my next pup. Good luck and happy hunting in the upcoming season.

I own a Raider grandson...

My dog, Bear, is Raider's paternal grandson and maternal great great grandson.

I did not know anything about Raider when I bought Bear, but I learned a lot about him later while doing pedigree research.

I know Raider was supposed to be a pretty special dog and after spending 3.5 years with Bear, I would have to say he may have inherited what he is from Raider, because he is a pretty special guy himself.

Raider was supposed to be very trainable and Bear is my first pointing lab and first hunting dog that I have ever trained and he is now an HRC HR, AKC SH and APLA 2X Grand Master Pointing Retriever. Should be an HRC HRCH and APLA 4X GMPR next spring. I doubt that we could have achieved that with just a normal dog. He has carried me through most of this stuff.

Some of Bears traits that may come from Raider: Super smart, great looking, very athletic, unbelievable drive in the upland field, fantastic off switch to become very mellow around the home.

I'll sum it up this way... If I could design a pointing lab for me... I would design exactly "to the T" what I have now with Bear. I don't know how I got so lucky, having done zero research before I bought Bear.

Bear does have 3 other 4X GMPRs directly in his pedigree and 7 of the current 22 GMPRs in the world are related to Bear.

Bear is Breeding, by the way, so give me a call if you are ever interested.. 970-215-6031

Thanks for the response. I will be in SD near Redfield the first week of November and have a chance to hunt behind this bloodline for the frist time. If it is what I think it will be I will looking for a pup from similar breeding in the spring. I will keep you in mind in case you know of any pups available.

You are welcome!

For your future reference (and just for fun.. these dogs get in your blood don't they!!!...)

Here are some pics:
- Bear pointing at 8 wks
- Bear pointing a Chukar at 3 yrs old (this summer)
- Bear sitting on a road - side view
- Bear with 2 of his GMPR ribbons
- Bear's recent pup pointing at 7 weeks

.. you can also see 3 videos of his pups retrieving and one pointing at 7 weeks, if you search on "7 wk old pointing lab" on youtube. In the video of the little girl pointing, that was her very first point.. not real stylish yet, but you can see the instinct. She was just sold yesterday and she locked up like a english pointer for her new owner.. tail straight up!!.

By the way, Bear recently had 19 pups in two litters and, I think, 9 are left if you know of anyone looking for a great PL pup.

One litter was with a Cholocate female Certified Pointing Retriever... 2 black males, 2 black females, 2 white females left from that litter. Ready now!!

The other litter was with a yellow/white female. She was the wyoming state Jr pheasant hunting champion 2 yrs ago!!.. ... 2 white males (best of the litter, per the dam owner) and 1 white female left from that litter. Also Ready Now!!

If you do know of anyone interested, please pass on my number 970-215-6031

We are going hunting around Presho, SD Oct 23rd through the 27th.. and we could even bring a pup up from Colorado, if someone lived near there or just along the way... or was, perhaps, hunting in SD at that time.

A couple more pics of Bear with his recent litter...

OK... I'll stop with the Bear info overload!!
